2001 Zion National Park, UT. While taking a break from lugging my 40 or so pounds of camera gear up to the top of Angels Landing in Zion, I noticed this odd hole and crack in the wall. As a general rule, sandstone photographs beautifully, and the collision of these 4 very interesting substructures was quite unique. This is one of those sort images that I am always on the look out for: simple, clean, and an almost architectural form in the natural world. Beauty in simplicity. It was a bit of a precarious
position for taking the shot, a few hundred foot tumble would follow
any misplaced step. The contrast between the upper and lower sections
is present naturally and emphasized slightly in the darkroom. |
